Nailing Cedar Shakes

I have an 11 gauge roofing nailer. Are these nails too big for hand cut cedaor shakes?

for shingles or shakes you should be using a siding coil nailer which shoots ring shank nails.. the same type of gun typically used for putting down underlay. for shakes they need to be faced nailed with finish nails in conjunction with the blind nailed ring shanks.. it keeps them from curling or cupping

Your roofing gun won't work for wood shakes.
Nails or staples, per IRC; http://publicecodes.citation.com/ico...003_par010.htm
