Nail question

Hey all,

I was cleaning out the garage the other day, and I happened upon a particular nail (photo attached). It is a smooth nail with a very pronounced barbed tip. I am curious if any members might have some insight as to where it came from or what such a nail would be/have been commonly used for...?

Thanks!

Nail question

Same princible as one of these.

There's dozen of differant designs for cut nails, that one would have been used if someone really did not want something to ever come apart again. Only time I have seen one like that it was used in boat building. Once it goes in the wood swells around it and it's never backing out.

Nail question

Yes, looks like an early form of annular (ring) nail with serrations designed to prevent the nail from pulling out
