modular home upgrades
Help.. My modular home is nothing but a rectangle. I think the best thing to do is to add a dormer/pitched roof over the front door and make it so i could add a decent porch. I'm a decent handyman as far as the porch is concerned but have never even thought about putting up a dormer.. well i guess it would be a pitched roof. I don't need it to actually enter the house or anything.. no windows or anything. just something to give the porch a cover and to get rid of the the rectangle look.
If anyone has done this before or know any pricing or anything that can help.. please respond.. thanks. |

Its kind of hard to describe. here are a few links
http://www.hometime.com/Howto/projec..._4.htm#forming http://www.hometime.com/Howto/projec...ng/frame_6.htm Essentially you will build your porch with a gable style roof with a ridge beam extending back to your roof. Cut individual rafters from the ridge to the roof to form a valley. Dormer framing is different because dormers are usually open to the inside. I have this book http://www.jlconline.com/cgi-bin/jlc...products/RC107 It shows what you want to do, sort of. Its a very technical book and trade oriented. For a small DIY project like you have your do not need to know all the math and techniques for production cutting large batches of rafters and so forth. Good luck and take some pictures as you go |
