Metal in joists?

Hi;
I am working with an Zircon i500 in the metal mode, trying to locate BX cables beneath the floors of an upstairs room in my 80 year old wood frame home.
I cannot find the wiring, but I get a full scale, almost continuous reading along the entire length of the floor joists. I know that I am on the joists because I get these readings along lines that are 16" apart.

I know that the stud finder will pick up the nails in the joists and in studs, but I am perplexed as to why I get a continuous reading along the entire length.

Any ideas?

Thanks

FW

If it's 80 years old, I'd assume you are reading all of the nails in the floor boards which are close enough to look continuous to the finder.

Thanks. I wouldn't have thought a continuous reading, but probably a lot more nails that I imagined.
