Are Metal Industries Windows Good?

We are putting new construction arched top windows in the front of our house. Wood Andersons are way out of our league so we have to go with vinyl. Metal Industries makes a arched top double hung as shown in the plans. I can get al windows for the house from Metal Industries for $3,500 but my contractor says Certain Teed windows are much better for $6,500. Are Certain Teed worth the extra cash? If I did go with Certain Teed, the windows in the front would be two molded double hungs with an arched top window.

Hey Jelly,.

One of the most important components of any home is the windows.
Do not cut corners here,it will only cost much more down the line to replace the units.
I am not familar with the Metal Windows, but from the sound of the price I'd say they weren't even a consideration.
Certainteed has a good warranty and so does Harvey Industries.I've used both with no call backs.
Trust your Contractor on this one!

MI makes Capitol windows. I would not put those in my house. Go with Certainteed, it will be a much better investment.

You guys are right, I need to go with the better quality window.

Will the front windows look that much different using the 3piece certainteed windows (left, right, half round) versus the 2piece left and right as shown in the plans?

Thanks for your opinions.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but we have Capitol windows in our house (we are the second owners). Since the house was built in 2001 we have had 5 seal failures in our windows (~20% of the windows in the house).

The manuafacturer, "Metal Industries" will provide replacement thermal panes, but the warranty on the replacement panes is only one year. Since we are not the original owners, the 10 year warranty on the windows does not cover us. I have no reason to believe the replacement panes will fare any better, and I am not inclined to replace garbage with more of the same.

My question is whether we can get a higher quality thermal pane as a simple "drop-in" replacement from a manufacturer that actually stands by their product. I know Anderson is bandied about as one of the best, what about Pella or Marvin? Is it possible to take the thermal panes to a glass shop and get them re-sealed?

FYI, I believe Metal Industries also manufactures Certainteed windows.
