Default Metal Framing - Ceiling Questions

I am building a soundproof music studio (a room within a room). This will be the 3rd one I have built but the first one using steel instead of wood. I'm very confused in this new world of metal framing.

I have a few questions. See attached sketch.

1) The ceiling will be separated from the room's main ceiling so the top metal plates won't be fastened to anything on top. Is this OK and not an abnormal practice?

2) The span of the ceiling is 12' x 18'. What is the best method for tying 10' metal joists together? Should I weld them together? Or use some kind of fastener?

3) Should I use a heavier gauge than 25? The ceiling will be loaded with 2 sheets of 3/4" drywall on each side - 2 on the interior and 2 on the exterior.

Any thoughts or advice are welcomed.
