Mechanical vs adhesive fasteners

Are adhesive fasteners superior to masonary bolts? I noticed the builder in my area was using masonary bolts to anchor the sole plates. Also, would I be able to drill a 5/8" hole using a regular drill?

A mechanical fastener, or mechanical-fastening, is always going to be superior to any adhesive.

Either purchase or rent a hammer drill to dill the holes. You can do it with a regular drill but it can be one hell of a job.

For exterior walls, the bolts are a minimum code requirement. They must be 7" deep in the concrete.

As for drills, you must have a hammer drill and a masonry bit. You'd have better luck herding cats than using a conventional drill.

Hammer drill will suffice, however, if you can get your hands on a rotary hammer drill, it will be even easier.
