Measuring for Vertical Cement Siding

I am doing my own installation of Hardie Cement Siding. I am looking at the 4X8 siding and will also be installing trim. Any tips on measuring the house for the siding and trim. It seems straight forward, but I don't want to wind up with too much or too little. Any tips would be most welcomed.

Thanks in advance. Ed
