lvl free span of 22 feet
HI, I am wondering what size lvl beam i need to free span 22 feet, I have a older house, with an unsupported overhang. over the years I guess the fascia board rotted and weakened the 2x6 rafters which are self supporting the 5' overhang. I now have a sag 0f 3" in the middle. I have brick on both sides for support. Do not want to put a post in wondering if I can put a lvl in after jacking to straighten the sag?
Use two 9.5" LVL's for this span and supporting a 5' roof overhang.
One thing to keep in mind is that LVL's cannot be left exposed to rain.
You would be wise to ask this question at your local LVL supplier since most of them can do a site visit and calculate the loads better than we can with the information supplied.
Rafters or trusses?
Size of top chord?
Shingles or metal roof?
Bearing pad below your frost line for the posts at the end of the LVL?
Is there strength in the trusses to properly bear onto the un-intended support locations?
Snow/wind loads for your area?
Connection of rafters to the LVL?
Many things to be considered here.
was a great help, I was kinda thinking in the same ball park... Have a good day
