Lumber crayon markings

How do you remove markings from a lumber crayon on wood? Also, what is a good tool to use for marking wood that can be removed easily?

I've got some work that has some wax markings that don't need to be there. How do you remove pencil markings? Erasers smudge, sanding takes the finish off.

Are there any specific carpenter style chalk holders or anything specific aside from children's sidewalk chalk that I should be looking for?

Regular school teachers chalk (soft is what the wood shop here uses)---holders are available if you don't like to touch chalk.

Hobby Lobby has it around here--so I would think any craft or art supply store will have it.

Lumber crayon markings

Those rubber keel holders at the box stores came from me. Sad to say, no patent on them. In '74 when I started framing houses, I needed a tool to hold the keel, crayon. The stores only had single use, I wanted pencil at other end also. Used a 3" length of washing machine supply hose, 30 years later, my mobile nail supply guy saw mine, told his boss, week later his company name on some, 2 months later box stores had them......ouch.
