Low Ceiling in Basement

The clearance in my basement is very low. Presently, after hanging the frame for the ceiling, the clearance would stand at 80". I am thinking of not closing up with ceiling with sheetrock, but instead leave the joists exposed.

Does anyone have any suggestion to what finish could be used for joists and whether it is practical at all?

Low Ceiling in Basement

I've seen this done in older rehab homes. If you are okay with plain old paint, have at it. Keep in mind that it will build up cobwebs and such and will be a *************** to keep clean.
