Locks?

I need to buy 5 deadbolts for my house, I'll have them keyed alike and I'd like one of them to have a keypad (though this is not a "must have"). I prefer to have Schlage locks, and though I know they are expensive, I'm looking for someplace that has decent discounts - I'd rather not sink $250 in just locks right off the bat!!

The doors still have their original knobs, so the locks will be the only security as I am not going to replace the knobs with locking ones.

Locks?

Your best bet is probably a box store...schlage locks are numbered
in the packages. Try to find five deadbolts with the same number.

I think they only ship 3 of the same key/code in a box, the other 2 will have to be re-keyed. Call ahead to make sure the box store has someone on staff to re-key or go to a locksmith. Stay away from the Kwickset locks.

Locks?

Schlage locks are of better quality than Kwikset locks in my experience. If you are just buying deadbolts, it won't be to expensive, about $25 to $30 each for Schlage. When I installed new locks on my house, I used the deadbolts that require a key on both sides instead of the toggle switch. I had been robbed 5 times at my previous residence, and if you have a glass vision lite in your door, someone can break it, turn the toggle switch, and their in. I keep a key hanging near the door for emergency evacuation of the house, but out of reach of someone outside the door.

I don't plan on getting anything but Schlage, but the price adds up quickly! I found one on sale yesterday at Lowes for $20. I may end up just getting them piecemeal and then haveing them all rekeyed. I have a place that will re-key them for $3 a lock.

We're going to do some double keyed and some single keyed. I have a double on my current house, it took some getting used to, but it's not a big deal now.
