Lime stone basement walls

We are wanting to do some adding on to our over a hundred year old house.

We are being told by the carpenters that have already done some work for us, that with having a lime stone basement, they don't want to touch it.

They say the addition can not be done because in their opinion they don't think we should mess with the foundation.

I guess I'm just wanting a second opinion in this matter. I just can't believe this couldn't be done without putting a whole new basement in? Whitch they didn't mention as a solution. But something like that we would like to avoid if possiable! It only ends up being about 20' of outside wall.

Does anyone know anything about this matter and or has messed with a lime stone basement?

Lime stone basement walls

Antique houses have their own special needs---and I believe that this one needs the opinion of a structural engineer.

Concrete and masonry is a very different trade than carpentry--so those carpenters you asked were the wrong one to ask---

Get a structural engineer or a foundation specialist out there---
