Kitchen Renovation

Hi DYI Folks,

The Mrs. and I want to renovate our kitchen. Should I install the new flooring, whether it be tiles or hardwood before or after the cabinets are in place? I know the lino was placed after the old ones were installed but we are getting rid of everything.

Thanks,

KW56

After... the flooring should be one of the last items that goes in.. otherwise you'll be spending time covering it up and that's a PITA. As for the flooring under the cabinets, why spend money on something that'll never be seen? Sometimes tiling under cabinets can mess with the clearances for things like dishwashers and ovens. Just measure your clearances and you should be good.

I always put in the flooring FIRST--then cabinets--

The floors can be protected--This keeps the cabinets and appliances at the right height--

Makes the flooring install faster--

keeps the cabinets from being damaged during installation of the floor-

There is no advantage to installing the cabinets first that I can think of---Mike---

well you have to install flooring under the dishwasher and refrigerator. Personally I just install the flooring under everything UNLESS its laminate

in every new house that i have been in during construction, floor goes in after the cabinets but before appliances.

Chicken or Egg?

Doesn't matter to me as an installer, unless I damage the floor...
