Kerdi Alternative?

I am a DIY and I am redoing my bathroom and putting in tile. I know Kerdi is the best but I dont have the money for it. I was doing some research and I found this tru-gard vapor shield which is much more affordable to Kerdi's waterproofing stuff. The website says its made from the same bonded polyethylene material just at a lower price.

Has anyone used this trugard vapor shield before? It seems to be the same thing to me but I just wanted to get some feedback from the pro's before I use it.

Oh and here is the site that I found:

Kerdi Alternative?

Haven't seen it but I can't imagine it being that much of a step down if it is made of the same base material.

That being said, what is a proven product worth to you when it comes to doing a full system? Have you priced out the delta and what did you come up with?

Kerdi Alternative?

Thanks for the quick response. I found a video that explains the math between Kerdi and Trugard.

video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...v=vDi2J9REAzw#!

However I did do my own math as well and this is what I found:

Trugard shower kit: $145.85 (same stuff you get with kerdi)

Kerdi shwer kit: $513.95 (lowest price for what I need found on ecomfort.com)

In that video I posted above it says that why Trugard is so cheap is because you order directly from the factor taking out the middle man making the product much cheaper. Also kerdi uses this foam tray that is super expensive and again in that video I like that it says using the mud instead.

So with all that being said I have my answer.

Thanks for the question forcing me to find the answer to my own question!

I will submit a review on Trugard once I get the product and use it. Thanks again.

With my last post I would agree that Trugard *is* the alternative. I know kerdi is an amazing product but I dont have that kind of money. Getting the same necessary product for a lot less is an alternative.

Thanks for the comment tho.

Your own description gives you the answer. The Kerdi is waterproof. The other stuff is a vapour shield.

I would agree however the product is bonded polyethylene which is the same as Kerdi therefore both are waterproof just different words.

Thanks for the comment.

According to their website, TG is also waterproof.

I suppose it's up to you to decide which one you want to use.

Kerdi Alternative?

Thanks for the help everyone.

Just so you all know I went ahead and ordered one of their small rolls for $65.95 and I will be doing a video review. I am just as interested in this new product and why its much more affordable then Kerdi. I will make sure to post that video here for everyone as well.
