just bought a lawn mower and need a place for it

I have needed a riding mower for a few years so I went ahead and pulled the trigger on a cub cadet on labor day because it was on sale. Right now I have it parked under my deck with a tarp over it but I'd like a better space to keep it parked. I was thinking I'd attach a wall and roof to the side of my shed but not sure how since the shed has vinyl siding. Any ideas?

A picture would be helpful.
Vinyl siding can be removed relatively easily (just need some patience) especially if done when it is warmer outside (not freezing/below zero).

That'll be just fine until you're ready to do more.

Bigger than you need now or think you might need next year.
NOT attached to or even near the house.
Concrete floor with curbs.

LINK with some pictures to brew ideas from.

The shed is 12x16. The doors are on the front 16' side and there are windows on both 12' sides. I don't need anything fancy, just something to keep it out of the weather when not in use. I don't want to put it in the shed because it would take up to much space and right now there's no ramp going into the shed anyway. I want to attach something to the side you can't see in the picture. I'd like to have something before winter at least.

I think it would be easier not to attach it to the shed but instead just close to it. Maybe 2 4x4s an inch or so away set in concrete and then 2 more 4x4s 6 or 7 feet away with a metal roof attached to some beams? Just something simple that won't fall over if it gets a little windy. Lol

I think you should not attach near the shed.

There are some tent like solutions out there. Might save you some time and energy. Some can seal up or you can just get a canopy type with sides.

That's a good idea but I'd always worry when it gets windy. I have a nice 7-8' square space that is treeless and probably the most level area of yard that I have. Its the perfect size for a lawnmower shelter! I just need some simple structure plans so maybe I can build something on my own.

Tarps, in the long run, will just hold in moisture that does even more harm to them, so you're right in thinking that a more permanent storage solution is in order.

This might sound dumb, but I'd probably just buy another shed exclusively for the mower. Sunlight rots the plastic, rubber, and paint on a mower pretty badly, so just a roof over the top of it might not save it. Then again, the years I spent working on mowers taught me that most people don't give a rat's rear end what their mower looks like... Or for that matter, what it runs like until the day it doesn't run at all.

Just an FYI. My Cub Cadet dealer told me when I bought mine that the control module (part of the key switch assembly) does not like to be left out in the wet. 4 of us have the same model mower. Only the guy that parks his outside under a small carport-like structure has any issues. He's replaced the control module at least once every year. Sometimes twice.

I bought a John Deer lawn tractor ~10 years ago - built a 24'x30' storage shed to keep it in.

It will be best if it is stored on a concrete slab instead of dirt for moisture control purposes and to have a clean area just above (2" or 3") the surrounding lawn -no hassle with a big ramp. If you have a "building type" protection make sure the slab has a curb where the is no door to allowing it to be cleaned/flushed easilly.

Pour a concrete pad and build or buy a fiberglass box cover. Hinge it to the concrete one end if you like. Keep a mouse trap inside since they would love the neat little house you fixed for them.

I would think you want something that looks good and goes with the rest of your property. Your exsisting shed would be a good place to look for construction ideas. If quick and cheap is more important your options are unlimited. What size does it need to be?

I have a lawnmower cover on mine now and it stays under my deck which has gravel underneath. I'm looking for a simple storage solution and came across the shed in a box at home depot. Anyone have input on those? I can get a 8x8 for less than $200
