Jack stud for door
3 Attachment(s)
I have a situation where I need to put in a jack stud for a door. Only problem is the bottom plate was cut flushed with the king stud, so the jack stud have to make contact with the concrete slab.

Should I use PT lumber for the entire jack stud? I am not sure attaching a small piece of PT 2x4 at the bottom makes a lot of sense.

SPF is fine. Throw a little piece of lead, aluminum, copper, etc... If you're concerned. Is this an interior door?

Yes, interior door.

I'd use a treated stud there along with galvanized screws/nails and a dab of liquid nails where the jack hits the concrete floor...

You could use a redwood 2x4 for the trimmer.

It is naturally insect and decay resistant and is to code.

If the jack is non bearing, just leave it short of the floor by 1/2" or so.
