ipe screw spacings from sides

Installing an IPE deck on 16" centers and face screwing #8 Stainless steel predrilling and countersinking before. I am putting the screws 1/2" from the side is this too close? Just started to putting boards down so trying to decide if I should change this pattern before I get too far.

I would look into the hidden fastener systems. There are at least several that work well. Why put holes in that expensive wood.

couple reasons why I don't use hidden fasteners. Almost everyone Ive talked to and every posts I read say don't use them for IPE they don't work well and won't prevent warping. The other reason is I actually like the industrial look of the Stainless Steel fasteners . Of course the most ithe important reasons I am comitted Ive already started to layboards down and would like a second opinion on the spacing before I finish.

rocket....i'd come in a little. 1" should be okay. I face screwed my last one, but I counterbored and installed plugs. 2000 or so all together.

Hidden fasteners are okay. Used them too, but you can still see them between the boards.

i am prepping for a deck job next spring and have read 3 books from the library on the subject. each book talks about hidden fasteners and each book did not recommend their use.

would avoid them; that is unless there are NEW products on the market that are much more reliable.
