Interior finish to an exterior cinder block wall
I own a 60 year old house, with the exterior walls being made of cinder blocks (and a brick facade). The walls are all plastered over with a couple inches of plaster. This place is in winter climate (Quebec, Canada), and costs a fortune to heat! This winter we replaced the furnace with something modern and efficient, but now we'd like to address the significant heat-loss through the exterior walls. What is the suggested way to finish these walls? I'd also like to be able to run wiring through these walls, and don't mind losing a few inches of living space (for some kind of framed in 'sleeper' wall).

What is the suggested way to finish these walls?

Stud up some walls,+ insulate it... 2x4s, Insulation,+ drywall....

No need for any kind of vapor barrier? Can the studs touch the concrete bricks? 2x3s, 2x4s, furring strips? Fiberglass insulation, or the styrofoam sheet kind? Multiple layers of drywall, or will one suffice? How to handle windows cleanly, given that the wall will become thicker?

2x3s, 2x4s, furring strips?

Insulating values come from the Thickness of the material,...
I would think 4" would be an absolute Minimun in Que.... 6" probably isn't Too much....

Your post has slid to the bottom of page 1,...
Lets bump it back to the top,...
And see if somebody can shed some light on the rest of your questions...

we'd opt for const adhesive & foam sheets rather'n studding walls,,, still have to bld out windows but less,,, btw, most heat loss occurs thru ceilings, windows, & doors.

I want suggest you when you start your work then take more think ..Continue the process of cleaning all walls with the mild detergent and water mixture followed by rinsing with clean water. Routinely cleaning your walls keeps the matte finish looking bright and postpones the need to clean your walls with a stronger cleaning solution.
