installing tile. Toilet against the wall

I am trying to install tile behind a toilet that is against the wall.
Is there anyway to cheat 1/4 inch to get the tile in?

Did you remove the toilet before laying the tile? If not, you probably should have because at some point the toilet or its wax ring will have to be replaced. If you tile around the toilet, removing the old one will be tough and if you have to replace it with a new one, the footprint of the new one won't match that left behind by the old one.

I think the OP is tiling the wall, not the floor.

If the toilet is over wood floor system (ie: not concrete) you can probably pull the toilet, remove the screws in the flange, bump the flange forward a 1/4" and resecure.

Depending on exactly how the flange is set, you MIGHT be able to pull the toilet, tile, and reset it 1/4" forward of where it was. The flange bolts fit into slots in the flange, and it just depends on their current position. To determine if it'll work, carefully lift the bowl straight up and take note of exactly where the bolts are in the slots...See if you can move it 1/4" and still be securely in the slots. You'll need to set a new wax ring when you do this.
