Installing a new backdoor, and covering up the old.

Hi,
I am wanting to board up an old side door, cover it with vinyl siding, and then install a new frame and backdoor on the rear of the house (where there is not one) for easier access to the fenced-in backyard. I was unsure of where or how to start, and I could use a little help!
Thanks,
Garrett

Closing in the old one is simple enough--frame with 2x4 sheet with OSB--tar paper or Tyvec and siding.

The new opening will need a header----2 --2x12s with a slice of 1/2" plywood in between.

How big is the new door?

Have you opened the drywall in that area yet?

If it's within 4 feet of the outside corner you may have a bit more difficulty because of wind bracing --

Post a picture if you can or add some details--age of house --location of the new door---type of siding.

Lots of members have done this and will help---do remember it's a party week end so the best answers might take some time.

Like Mike said, post some pics and we will help. If the new door can go into an existing window area, it makes it easier too.
