Installing Mammoth Basketball Goal - Size of Hole?
I have a Mammouth Basketball Goal that I am installing next to my driveway. There was an older concrete pad/post that had been cut off years ago in this same location. I have removed the old pad/post, but while in the process have a left over hole about 24" wide x 36" long x 36" deep. My new hole for the goal needs to be 21" x 21" x 48" deep. Should I just dig the existing hole 12" deeper and fill in the complete hole with concrete? Or is there some way I could form the larger hole down to say 24" x 24" at bottom tappered up to about 21" x21" at the top? And then fill in around the concrete block with dirt? I don't want to over-use too much concrete, but I also want to make sure the surface on each side of the concrete is solid enough to hold the concrete in place.
Thanks for the advice.
I would suggest simply using a 27"+ sono-tube which will prevent frost from picking at the post (if applicable) and to save on total concrete.
