Installing a bigger window. Creating new rough opening
1 Attachment(s)
I am currently trying to decide what to do and how to go about creating my new rough opening to put in a larger window. The house is old (1945) and has wood chip insulation and tongue and groove boards on the interior... it was a big deal pealing off the layers to finally get to the studs. I haven't actually cut the opening yet. Just wondering if I should re insulate and put new vapor barrier on the whole wall. Any suggestions? |
If you are going to open the wall up for a bigger header I would definitely upgrade the insulation
And the electric if needed |
Hi! Looks like you will spend more time cleaning up sawdust ,than framing.
Yes,you should strip the old 1x4 sheeting, loose the sawdust and properly insulate. Reframing the opening should be a fairly strait forward matter. The gable end wall is not supporting the roof so no temporary bracing will be required. Good luck,Have fun.--MIKE |
