inground pool cement deck/pad
We're in the process of having an inground pool installed. We'd like a 4 ft cement deck around the pool. As a finished product it will look like a sidewalk around the pool. At present the pool is sitting waiting to be backfilled. Around the outside perimetre of the pool at the base there is cement. There are sonotubes around the pool, approximately every 5-6 ft. Once backfilled the sonotubes will be standing up vertical and will be cut to ground level. Apparently, then the sonotubes will be filled with cement which connects to the base cement around the outside base of the pool, and then the 'sidewalk' will be created around the pool. We've been told that after the concrete dries, they will sawcut lines through the 'sidewalk' across the top of each sonotube, and this will help with cracking / movement. The point of the sonotubes is for structural stability, and they are minimum 4 ft deep so as to be deeper than the frost line. Is this correct? I cannot find ANY codes regarding 'sidewalk' building in the Ontario Building Code.
