I want to make a retractable roof over my lounge

I have a pool in my back yard. You can imagine how awesome it is over the summer. However, because of my backyard's location I want to put in a retractable roof that extends from the side of my house and extends out about 20 feet. See, my backyard has no trees and gets very hot during the summer. I was thinking about adding an addition, perhaps a screended in porch but don't want to shell out the money. So I want to get around this. Anyone know how I can start? I think by adding a space like this can provide some shade to people who need it. Good lord knows I do. I'm whiter then Tom Arnold's nose at a crack convention.

In the Uk we have retractable awnings, but 20 feet is a hell of a long way to span.

Most awnings will be about 6 feet deep.

I should have a look around for retractable awnings.

Another solution might be a solar shading canopy or a pergola.

Wow, that's impressive. I bet it cost quite a lot to install.

Like you say, if you need a job doing, do it once properly!

How redneck are you willing to go? The covers that dump truck drivers (are supposed to) use sound like they'd do the trick.

The idea sounds great but I would like to use a nice tarp

Look into a retractable awning -
Don't know about 20 ft. out, though -
Not that cheap -
I put a couple of them in - not bad.
They are "DIY" possible.
Much cheaper than a room edition.
