I want to install a new keyed doorknob set in a bedroom door-but the latch on the old one is stuck into the wood
I bought a new keyed door knob--but when I removed the old doorknob and then tried to remove the latch from the wood frame ( the thing that actually fits into the strike plate) it is like it is glued or something in place and I couldn't even pry it loose---how do I get it out of the wood?
First you remove the screws on the latch. Some latches are circular, friction fit units, so no screws. Then you insert a screwdriver into the hole the spindle went through. Take a hammer and hit it from the hinge side so you drive the latch out of the door. It should take a few medium taps to get it started.
