I have to notch a floor joist

I guess I killed my own thread but I think I'm going to end up with a 3" hole in the joist under the exterior wall. I will add a makeshift strongback by screwing a 2X 10 across the studs above because I'm going to put a bench there.

It is about 18" in from the exterior wall that supports it.

I'll also use long sweep 90's to make my horizontal turns.

I have to notch a floor joist

I ended up fabricating two 1/4" X 9" X 24" steel plates. I cut a notch out for the pipe and then throughbolted them through the joist. I forgot to take a picture but I'll do that tomorrow.

I'm thinking that should be beefy enough for a shower pan.

I have to notch a floor joist

I want to post a picture of the joist but I am no longer able. Did something change on the site or is it my new computer? The only image posting option I have asks for a URL.

(I have posted pictures on this thread previously.)

If I can't add a pic, let me say that I notched the joist and sandwiched it between two pieces of 1/2" plate steel and throughbolted it with 6 3/8" X 4" grade 8 bolts. Seems to be pretty sturdy.
