I Have A Fresh Water Spring In The Basement That Is Leaking, How Can I Contol It?


Is there a way to cap the spring an use the water? There is a large systern in the basement as well

It is usually hard to cap a spring because it will break through the ground somewhere else nearby.

You could install a holding tank (cistern) to hold some of the water and when that fills up you "waste" the rest of the water down some hill outside.

To alleviate leaking into the basement the best bet is a perimeter drain system leading to a sump pump pit (or the cistern if below floor level).

Free water? Lucky guy. Any well drillers around there that could give you advice on how to tap into it and perhaps divert at least some of it away from the house? Seems there should be an easy way (yeah, right. REAL easy....) to get a pipe into it and draw it in a more controlled manner. Let us know if you find anything out. Thanks. j

I'm not sure you'd want to drink it without testing it or treating it. The large commercial spring water distributors like Poland Spring ozonate the water first. That sanitizes it without adding that chlorine flavor but it then needs to sit in an open tank for 24 hours to evaporate the ozone because it's poisonous.
