I din't get a permit for my deck


I did not get a permit for my deck and now it is finished, I live out of city limits, now what can I do?

Sit on it until it collapses, then file a lawsuit against the builder.

I assume someone is now inquiring ? If so, you might be able to get one, but you also run the risk of having them tell you to rip it down and start over. Some counties have very lax requirements and depending on where you live there is a chance, albeit a small one, that you don't need one at all ( probably not the case though...)

If no one is asking, I'd wait it out at this point. If you are worried that's it's unsafe, that's a whole other issue, but if you are happy with it, and no one is asking to see the permit, at this point I'd cross that bridge when i come to it

Are you sure you even need one? Under so many inches off the ground and/or not attached to the house is considered landscaping if many areas.

Why are you asking now after you built it? Did you build it yourself or a contractor build it?
