Hybrid Timber Frame

My wife and I are in the process of designing and planning our next "dream home". I have a few questions I'd like to ask and one of them deals with the framing.

I am a big fan of the exposed beam ceiling but not so much of the vertical posts inside the house. One timber frame company, Goshen Timber Framing, mentions "hybrid" framing on their site.

In hybrid framing, if I understand correctly, typical stick walls are built and then a timber framed beams and rafters are placed on top of that. They are not just there for appearance, they are part of the structure. It sounds like the best of both worlds.

Here's a link to their site. Any thoughts or experience with this type of frame construction?

I realize this is an old post, but I was browsing this morning & happened across it. I took a look at the link to Goshen Timber Framing, out of NC I believe, great looking work. From what I read there you are correct in your assumption on the framing.

A belated welcome and good luck with your dream house. ;)

Go with the full timberframe. I've helped build a few, and my father in law and I built a small timberframe addition on their house. I'd be kicking myself repeatedly if we'd gone with conventional framing.
