Hurricane Brackets (truss brackets)

I am finishing up my pole barn and one of the last things I have to do before the next inspection is to install the hurricane brackets between each truss and the wall header.

Each of these brackets has slots for 10 nails. Do I really have to put 10 nails in each bracket to pass inspection?

One of the challenges is that on each truss where it lines up, is where the metal fasteners they used to join the 2x4s together is, so I have to predrill 5 holes. I have 24 trusses, so 48 brackets and 480 nails.....

It sure seems like a major overkill.

If you only needed 2 nails they would have only put 2 holes in the straps.

At Simpson, you can use the H-clip instead. But, I use a pair of locking pliers clamped on a masonry nail, to tap a start hole in each gusset plate hole needed.

Rent/buy a palm nailer and save yourself a buttload of time and effort.

Most of the time your nails will line up with the slots in the gusset plates but if not a pair of pliers to hold the nail will save your fingers. The h-clips GBAR suggested are I think easier to work with and they can be installed from the inside also, which might help out by missing the gusset plate. And make sure you use the right nails. I've seen people use roofing nails, No good. and as far as the palm nailer suggestions, Not only will it save time but it will save your arms and wrist from unneeded pain.
