How would you do this?

The back of our house is getting a mirror image of the front roof. It will be a hip roof with a dutch gable. I have to put in some double 2X10 or 12 beams from the post to the walls. How would you go about attaching these to the walls so that they will carry the load of the new roof? The walls are 2X4 @16OC with solid 1X8 pine siding.

Don't understand what you mean by a 'hipped roof with Dutch gable'?

Maybe, "Caribbean hip"?

The problem with roof terminology is that it frequently depends on where you are.

Here is what I am calling a dutch gable.

What else would this sort of structure be called?

So how would a seasoned carpenter marry the beams to the walls? These beams will carry new rafters.

Polecat, I stand corrected!
Just googled dutch gable and it shows roofs as you drew it. (I would have called it a 'hipped roof with gablet'); learn something everyday.

I had to look it up myself. Lived here 20 years and just called it "roof".
