Question How to tie in???

I have a 20' tall brick veneer exterior wall. I'm gonna add a screened porch. I want to drop below the existing roof (to 17' High) and build a new hip roof. Because there is not a rim joist at 17' to bolt into, how will I tie the band joist of the roof addition to the brick wall? I'm in NC.

Most building departments won't allow brick veneer to be used to structurally support ledgers or joists. Some will allow lagging or bolting through the brick to studs or rim joist and other locales will require you to remove the brick in that area and attach directly to the framing. Time to talk to your friendly building department to find out what is ok in your area.
