I recently repaired my front steps by replacing a few rows of clay brick and added bluestone treads. The mortar got a little messy and I can't seem to remove all of it. It actually looks like crap. I have tried various muriatic acid amounts in water and the old brick scrubbing trick. Nothing works and I'm going nuts about trying to finish it properly. What can I do??? Is there a special tool that I can use?
The time to clean the mortar off the brick is soon after you finish the job. At this point, you can try powerwashing the residue off or using a chisel to get the globs off and then try the acid again. Grinding is a possibility, but the damage you can do usually outways the benefit.
