how do i make a wall straight,

hi all and thanks for any help you may have,
we had some water damage which led to me removing the plaster and lath from the walls and ceiling. then proceeded to shim the studs to make them as straight and level as poss, which is not fun in a 100 yr house,.LT hen i came to an (in corner and an out corner )sorry for the poor description, anyway i cannot figure how to make both corners square, as a level seams to play no part in helping me know if the studs side by side are straight with each other? ________________

You lost me on the description, but levels are used to level and plumb, while stinglines and lasers are used to assure straight lines, and framing squares are used to assure 90 degree corners.
