How do I faux paint concrete?

problem - need to faux paint new concrete bannister to look like stone. What latex-based paint works best, and do I prime first?

Most any paint will work well. You first have to research your faux painting method for the look. This will probably requirer glazes to be added to paint and some unusual application method. I would think a good sealer type primer would help to make a stable surface to apply your finish too. I have seen stone type spray paints but they generly seem to look like concrete. Thats what you already have so I don't think that is what you would be looking to do.

Hi Jake

what is faux paint
Faux is not a type of paint. It is various methods used to achieve an affect of another material or style. Such as painting MDF or metal to look like wood grain. or dry wall to look like marble. Some of the techniques are relatively easy but some are rather hard to achieve. Most all use a glazes in with the paint to thin the pigment to semi transparent. There are many books and devoted web sites to the subject. I believe the word "faux" is French for "fake" so as to a look alike but not real.
