How do I extend my deck?

yummy mummy Member     Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Canada Posts: 1,697	How do I extend my deck? I have a very small deck, and would like to extend to the left. I only want to extend the deck part, not the stairs. How would I go about doing that? There is stone on the patio presently. Thank you Attachment 19237 Attachment 19238

Ron6519 Member   Join Date: Mar 2007 Location: Long Island, NY Posts: 9,519	How do I extend my deck? I'd reevaluate the post/beam relationship under the present structure. The beam seems to have a space over the 4x4 post. I'd switch the posts to 6x6's and put a continouous beam accross the entire front. If you don't want to bolt into the house, install two other 6x6 posts by the house and float the deck. Ron

Ron Thanks Ron. I like the idea of the floating the deck, as you are correct, I don't want to bolt to the house. The pictures looks like there is a space but the 2 X 6s, (I think that is what they are?) are on the post across to the other side.
