How attach new basement foundation to the existing one?

Hello, does anybody knows how to attach new basement foundation to the existing one by Ontario buidling code?
We are going to build an addition to our house, i mean my husband is going to build it, but he doesn't know how to attach both together.
The existing one is poured concrete, and the new one will be from cement blocks, the hight is 7'.
thank you very much.

You attach them with 15mm re-bars. Go to your local city hall and ask if they have any sample sheets on your situation. I hope you are drawing up plans for this? If you are then your architect or structural engineer would have a detail on how this would be attached.

Some of your current guild-lines: http://www.hpo.bc.ca/PDF/BuilderInsight/BI2.pdf

http://web2.gov.mb.ca/laws/regs/pdf/b093-127.06.pdf

Just a quick search, maybe it will help a little with the rest of the addition…

Your structural engineer is asking you how you plan to attach the new foundation to the old one? Normally they would provide a detail for you.

My house consists of an old house (1959) with a full basement, and an addition (1976) also with a full basement. Both foundations are concrete. The two are NOT tied together, there is a construction joint between the two foundations. It is not required to tie the two together where I live (Massachusetts), and in fact there are some very good reasons not to tie the structures together. For one, if there is differential movement and the two are not tied, they will move independently, which can avoid a lot of cracking. If you do tie the two structures together, it is important to have a good, ductile detail, else you can get cracking at the junction point if the two structures settle differently, which is common.

I've found most of the U.S IRC online through one source or another. Have you tried searching for yours? This will get you started.... http://www.hastingshighlands.ca/uplo...ode%202007.pdf

And explore these: http://www.google.com/search?client=...32b8af52b7e0b8

Good job!
Now find the up-dates that pertain to your specific question by the code numbers. First find the year Code you are under with local B.D. or equivalent.
