House expansion/contraction with the sun?

Hi,
I first noticed this after we had our first house mouse back in january and became tuned in to all sounds of our new house. On weekends, which is the only time we are home when the sun comes up, we can hear creaks, sounds, etc in the wall behind our bed, which faces southeast towards the rising sun. In the evenings, in the outer walls of the kitchen, we can hear similar sounds, and these walls face north and west, sort of near the sunset. We have had a mild winter, so nights can drop below freezing with daytime temps in the 40s, 50s, and lately the 60s. Is it reasonable to assume that the morning sun and the setting sun make enough difference in either the house frame or the vinyl siding to make these noises?
Thanks!

Buildings are constantly on the move because of thermal/moisture/settlement etc. When we get sealed packs of lumber from Canada it can change shape overnight when opened because of the moisture here.

Most likely the vinyl siding.

If it's especially bad it may installed incorrectly. If it is nailed tightly to the sheathing (incorrect) or expansion gaps were omitted it will creak and pop as the vinyl struggles to be free.

Check it through the day, does it become wavy or buckle?

There was one extremely breezy day a few weeks ago with a very warm sun beating on that side of the house. Even outside i could hear the siding when the wind blew. It looks very secure on top and bottom, but from what i understand everywhere in between its more "free hanging". Since our bed is right up against that wall, it sounded much closer than it was. I guess being a new homeowner it takes a while to ignore the sounds :-)
