Historical Interior Ceiling Issue

We are trying to raise an existing drop ceiling back to the original height. Can we take the plaster off of the lattice and hang sheetrock straight to the lattice? Or do we put something like plywood in between?

Thanks

I think you mean lathe instead of lattice right?

Either way do not screw to lathe, screw to the ceiling joists instead.
You may have to use 2" screws rather than 1-5/8" screws but it is worth the little extra trouble.

And no, you probably don't need plywood.

Andy.
