Help me execute these deck stairs *Mockup Photos*
I used some extra wood I had around to do a mockup of what i want to accomplish with these deck stairs:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/78847735@N05/6972301862/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/78847735@N05/7118380041/ This was my idea, let me know what you think: Dig down through dirt at base of stairs, bury deck blocks in gravel with a bolt coming up from bottom to attach ground rated PT. something like this: http://www.contractortalk.com/attach...2-pics-002.jpg Then either hand stringers from joist, or build box steps. Never done stairs before, so help would be much appreciated, especially regarding getting the base correct. |

Not trying to shoo you away, but this is standard stuff you'll find in any deck book. HD and Lowes have tons of them. Most provide fairly detailed and easy to follow directions for building and anchoring stairs and box steps.
Sorry. I just don't see anything unique about your situation, and polling a forum for information readily available in how-to books seems like a roundabout approach. |

fair enough, and I have bought the books and read the articles, guess I was just looking for someone with experience to say, 'yes that will work' or 'yes, but use concrete instead' ect...
It's one thing to see it in the books concerning a generic installation vs posting pics of your actual situation and seeing if anyone pics anything up you didn't see. Thanks |

Fair enough, likewise :-) If the rest of your deck uses deck blocks, using them for your stairs makes sense. If the rest of your deck uses footings that rest below the frost line, assuming you have one, then using deck blocks for the stairs could be problematic, as they will move with frost heave but the rest of your deck will not.
