HELP APPRECIATED!! Vaulting our ceiling - HIP roof, not clear to me!

I get it! No really! We hired a structural engineer! His initial contract was fee to come and see, then possible fee to draw up an entire plan. I asked if it is possible to just visit for the fee and tell all verbaly. He said yes and amended the contract. However he came and was not specific about anything. He ummd and arrrrd and did not even go in the attic!!! Just poked his head up. He came for 40mins instead of an hour. Said we might have questions so email. I have emailed and got the respons "it's hard to say what size header you will need............! " We hired him to tell us!!!!!!!
I am very upset with this dude. Gave him a week to respond to my following email. Asked him to call me....
Will call him again tomorrow.
