have you ever heard of this

So I'm thinking of making my own shake siding for my cabin. Thinking of using 3/8 or 1/2 inch spruce plywood. Alot of cutting I know, but can you see any reason it would be a bad idea. How much overlap should there be. let me know what you think.

I think it would be a disaster in the making! The edges of plywood, even if it's exterior grade are very susceptible to separating over a period of time due to weather and moisture. You're going to create a huge number of edges for the weather to attack. If you want to use shakes for siding by ones that are already made or if you must make your own make them of solid wood, not plywood.

No way with plywood. If that was a good idea major companies would have been making those things a long long time ago.

I think this is pretty funny, but I don't think you meant it to be.

If you feel compelled to make your own shakes buy some cedar bolts and split your own the old school way.

A cord of bolts is good for about ten squares of siding.
