Hardiplank siding

I'm thinking of re-siding my house, but I don't want to use vinyl or aluminum. Has anyone installed the Hardiplank siding on their own house? Is it brittle, break easy etc? Is it just like hanging wood siding or is there any special prep work that needs to be done before hand. Thanks.

Hardiplank siding

its a pain in the @ss, labor instensive, lots of extra prep, special tools, special blades for saw, etc, etc, but I love the look and would do it all over again.

Hardi is heavier than wood but other than that it’s no more difficult or labor intensive to install.

There is no more prep work for Hardi than any other lap siding being installed onto a smooth surface.

Other than a saw blade there’s no special tools needed for Hardi although some are available.

Hardi is brittle but that’s not an big issue once installed.

Hardi is a thin cement wet noodle and will amplify any imperfections in the wall. Looks ok from the curb though.

Don’t breath the dust.
