Hardie plank siding

Building a new house and am looking at the hardie plank siding instead of brick because its less expensive. Can you buy it pre-painted?

Yes but I see no since in paying the extra for it.
Reason being your going to still have to paint any place it gets cut, all exposed nails, all the scuffs from shipping and handling.
Just buy the primed.

Do the math on getting your house painted vs. pre-painted. I did pre-painted when I resided my house (used Certainteed Fiber Cement). The finish is warranted a lot longer than any house painter will guarantee. If the siding is blind nailed the only painting is the cut edges which isn't that much. Not sure about Hardie, but the Certainteed came with a protective plastic sheet on every piece of siding.

harty is also a much better product than the certainteed. ive installed both.. if your allowing for 10% waste in harty youll have to up it to 25% with certainteed.. its twice as brittle as harti

I have prepainted dark red hardi. Matching touch up paint. Each piece has protective plastic film between them. Any cuts should be against trim anyways where it needs to be caulked. I would buy it painted myself, I wouldn't of even bothered with it if I had to paint it all. Painting my wood soffit, fascia and trim boards was enough for me.

Thank you very much for all of the advice. Just trying to get all my ducks in a row before starting construction.
