Hardibacker siding as a shed roof?

I have a 8x12 shed that is constantly shaded. In the last 4 years the wood under the shingles has rotted and it's sinking fast. I was wondering if Hardibacker siding must be installed vertically only or if I could use it on the shed roof which has slight angles. Also does anyone know if Hardibacker siding is mold and mildew proof? This area is so shaded that moss grows between the tufts of grass.

Anything with less than a 2:12 roof shouldn't have any sort of lapped roofing (shingles). Such a roof needs to be treated like a flat roof. You said "slight angles" so I don't know if yours is in this category.

Let's assume it isn't. I absolutely would not use hardie siding material (I assume you didn't mean hardibacker, since that's not even siding). Use asphalt shingles. If your roof is between 2:12 and 4:12, you need to double up on the roofing felt.

Search the internet for how to install asphalt shingles. There's numerous steps, but it's very much a DIY project if you're not too afraid of heights.

Shallow pitch then just go with metal roofing.
Remove what's there now for shingles and sheathing and just install 1 X 6 pine at right angles of the rafters every 16" and install the metal right over it.

Hardibacker siding as a shed roof?

Thanks guys! I've been thinking about corrugated metal roofing from when mine first started to go bad but I can't find it anywhere around here. I haven't checked Agway yet, maybe I will, or stop at a farm and ask them where they got theirs. Home Depot used to have corrugated fiberglass roofing which I thought would have been ideal, but they don't carry it anymore. I think I'll go back to the metal idea or hunt harder for fiberglass. If you have any ideas of places to get it I'd appreciate it.

Lowes, Home Depot, any lumber yards will have metal roofing. It may be 5 V but it will work fine.
