Hardi Board Trim installation tips??

Wanting to trim out exterior side of my windows with a somewhat smooth trim. Smooth Cedar in the thickness I want too expensive. Smart trim too coarse of a pattern. Exploring the option of using 5/4 x 4" Hardi Trim. Never worked with it before. Bought a piece, and the appropriate blade today to experiment. Don't know how long the blade will last, but the first cut was like butter, and much less dust than expected.
My question is this. Does anyone have any tips on installing? The website isn't as descript as I'd like. Either that, or I'm not reading/navigating it right. I find no mention of nail size or if I should predrill.
I drove a couple 10d galv into it, and wasn't impressed. Stress cracks, and some mushrooming. Afraid to predrill it loose. Wondering if the best approach is to drill a size smaller than nail?? Are 10d's too big?
This stuff is HEAVY, so I want it to be very secure.
Windows and house are wrapped, so I can't use adhesives.

Thanks for any comments.
Jules

Will attempted to contact JH directly today.

Thanks for chiming in.

Hardi Board Trim installation tips??

I guess I could open my eyes though and read it all........

HardieTrim
NT3 boards can also be installed in a more traditional fashion with finish nails. Use
minimum 16 ga. 2" galvanized finish nails spaced at 16" o.c. to attach the trim.

assuming other styles can be installed the same.

Hardi Board Trim installation tips??

Were just finishing up a job with hardi trim, 5/4x4 up to 5/4x12. We face nailed it with 2-3/8" ringshanks with a framing nailer, our coil nailer wouldnt sink the nails. Your right its HEAVY.

the same detail can be used on any type of solid trim, remember you will also be caulking the trim to the hardie and also around the window,a good polyureathane or eqivilent caulk which really helps hold the trim in position too helping to minimize the amount of fasteners you need....within reason

I can't imagine lugging a X12 up to a gable peak......ugh.

I do like the fastener concept, though I've never seen it before. I experimented with "attempting" to drive a couple 16d galv finish nails, as per the sites suggestion. That's a joke.
In my particular application, I'm simply wrapping my windows. Eave trim and lower band are out of smooth cedar. Solid area to be stucco.
