I'm getting ready to lay grooved IPE decking. It just occurred to me (it's my first time doing this) that the grooves will be visible on the outside of the deck, which is not exactly what I want (and my I, I mean my wife). Things I've considered : Routing groove (will only work on side showing length of board, width side will still show groove), running fascia so that it's even with edge (prefer a slight lip on the stairs - it's a deck with 2 stairs running entire two sides of deck), and buying non-grooved boards for the edging (don't necessarily want to extra expense if possible). My dad mentioned that it may be possible to fill the groove with wood filler - I've seen some that are pre-colored to match hardwood. Would this work?
