Good Soundproofing Insulation?

Sorry if this is in the wrong spot. I think its okay though.

I have an interior wall that needs to be soundproofed well because it is a shared wall with neighbors in the condo next door. Does anyone have any suggestions for good soundproofing for an interior wall? Cheap would be best but if not I am open to suggestions.

Thanks

Good Soundproofing Insulation?

Back when I was a ceiling mechanic full time, a lot of the contracts we got for schools and churches involved hanging acoustical panels on the walls. Of course, they came in custom sizes from a shop, but you could make them. They were basically rigid foam panels, about 1 1/2" thick, covered with fabric. They had a kind of hook glued to the back and we screwed receiving hooks to the wall. Hang 'em just like a picture. They worked great.

What do you consider cheap? What size is the common wall?

I don't know what would be considered cheap. I am open to pretty much any suggestion. However, I don't know if I'd like to use the acoustic panels. The wall is an odd shape. It goes from about 8 1/2 ft. to maybe 12ft high.

There is wood paneling I'd like to put back on the wall after insulating it.

I don't know how involved you want to get, but adding mass to the wall would probably help the most. Another layer of 5/8" drywall with a sound dampening adhesive(such as green glue or quiet glue) would probably be your best solution. You could easily replace the wood paneling once the dyrwall is installed. There's also other systems out there like mass loaded vinyl or walldamp:

Try some google searches(sound proofing, sound dampening, ...) as see what's out there.

Woah, thanks for all the info. I never knew there was glue out there for sound proofing. Adding the sheet rock is not a bad idea. Thanks for the input.
