Glulam beams, nailing, notching, boring....


Hello and thanks for any response. ..

I have an 8"x21"x25 foot beam spanning the garage ...

I know you can not bore or notch this beam but what about nailing into it to hang stuff, etc...

Is there any rules to follow here or is it a non issue...

Looking to build a soffit to run some h20 lines using 2x4's and 2.5" 16 g nails...

I've used many glulams, LVLs, LSLs, PSLs....

I've never had issues installing joist hangers, attaching hardware, etc.

I'd say you're OK.

you are even allowed to drill through PSL beams but there are codes to it..
